Viktor von Handel-Mazzetti

Viktor von Handel-Mazzetti (born November 26, 1844 in Prague , † January 7, 1927 in Osternberg near Braunau am Inn ), Baron von Handel-Mazzetti, was an Austrian officer , genealogist and historian .

Life

After Viktor von Handel-Mazzetti graduated from high school in Innsbruck in 1864, he, like his father, Major General Ludwig Freiherr von Handel-Mazzetti, embarked on an officer career , which he began as a cadet in Venice and ended in 1897 as commander of an infantry regiment in Brno . During his thirty-three years of service he worked for a long time as a teacher of history and geography at the infantry cadet schools in Vienna , Bratislava and Sibiu .

On January 1, 1897, Handel-Mazzetti retired as a colonel, moved to Linz and was archivist at the Upper Austrian State Museum until 1913 . He worked on volumes 6, 7, 8 and 9 of the Upper Austrian document book . Several Upper Austrian rulership archives owe their orderly status to him, including Aurolzmünster , Götzendorf, Hartheim - Puchenau , Oberwalsee - Eschelberg , Schaunberg - Eferding , Hagenau-Hueb, Altenhof-Falkenstein- Leonstein . In the last years of his life he was archivist for Archduke Franz Salvator at Wallsee Castle .

Viktor von Handel-Mazzetti was the uncle of the botanist Heinrich von Handel-Mazzetti and the officer and painter Eduard von Handel-Mazzetti .
