Vile ( Engl . For ghastly ) is the fifth studio album by American death metal band Cannibal Corpse .

History of origin

The original title for the album was Created to Kill , but the singer at the time, Chris Barnes, left the band while they were recording. The remaining band members decided to name the album Vile . For the retired Barnes , a new singer was found in George Fisher , who was the singer of the band Monstrosity at the time , who sang the entire album from scratch. With this album, the band changed their logo, which was designed by Chris Barnes to prevent legal problems. In Germany, Vile was only sold with a defused cover to prevent further indexing. The uncensored cover shows a mutilated corpse with maggots bulging out of its belly. For Rob Barret it was the last album with Cannibal Corpse for the time being.

Shortly after its release, the album was released as a special edition with two live tracks and a video as a digipack version, which caused displeasure among some fans.

Metal Blade 25th Anniversary Edition

For the 25th anniversary of the Metal Blade record company , a special edition with live DVD was released, recorded in Berkeley Square in 1997. The album was also remastered and released with a new booklet. This version was indexed on September 14, 2015. The district court of Marburg ordered the general confiscation of the CD "Vile" and the live DVD by order of August 19, 2016 - file number 54 Gs 1 Js 10068/16.
