Vincenz mushroom
Vincenz Pilz (born November 14, 1816 Warnsdorf , † April 26, 1896 in Vienna ) was an Austrian sculptor .
Life
Pilz studied at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts with Josef Käßmann (1784–1856) and Franz Bauer (1798–1872). Pilz was in Rome from 1850 to 1854 on an imperial scholarship. Later he was supported primarily by Theophil Hansen and created several statues on the representative state buildings on Vienna's Ringstrasse . One of his best known works is the group Pegasus Tamed by the Muses , which he designed and made for the Vienna Opera House . However, after severe public criticism, it was soon taken down and sold to Philadelphia (USA).
