Viorel Năstase (born October 7, 1953 in Bucharest ) is a former Romanian football player . He played a total of 239 games in the Romanian Divizia A , the German Bundesliga and Italian Serie A .

Career

The career of Năstase began with Progresul Bucharest when he came to two missions in Divizia B during the 1969/70 season . At the end of the season he rose with his club in the Divizia A , the highest Romanian division. In the House of Lords he was able to score nine goals in 16 games. Nevertheless, his club rose again at the end of the season in Divizia B.

After relegation, local rivals Steaua Bucharest signed Năstase. The later record champions were not one of the top teams in the country at the beginning of the 1970s and only achieved placements in the front midfield. After two seasons as a substitute player, he achieved his breakthrough in the 1973/74 season : With 19 goals in 31 appearances, he finished third on the Romanian goalscorer list behind Mihai Adam and Dudu Georgescu . He ended the 1975/76 season with his first two titles. In addition to the championship, his club was also able to prevail in the cup final and win the double . This season, however, he was only able to contribute four hits and was thus in the shadow of his storm colleagues Anghel Iordănescu and Marcel Răducanu .

In the following season Năstase could not defend both titles with Steaua and Universitatea Craiova and Dinamo Bucharest had to admit defeat. With 17 goals, he was himself the fourth best goalscorer in the league. It was the last season as a regular for Steaua. He experienced the 1978 championship again as a supplementary player with only twelve inserts. After he had only played two games in the 1979/80 season , he left the club after nine years. He pulled away after a game in Switzerland in 1979 against Young Boys . He signed with the German Bundesliga TSV 1860 Munich . With the "Löwen" he found his way back to his old strength and scored 14 goals in 23 games as a striker colleague of Rudi Völler . Nevertheless, the club had to relegate at the end of the season .

In the summer of 1981 Năstase left Germany and joined US Catanzaro in the Italian Serie A . He was unable to assert himself in Calabria and only had a few missions in three years. The time was not successful for his club either. After relegation from Serie A at the end of the 1982/83 season , the club had to relegate from Serie B a year later .

In the summer of 1984 Năstase ended his active career for the time being, but tried a comeback at SV Austria Salzburg in November 1984 . There he completed three of the four outstanding autumn games and finally ended his career during the winter break.

In 2012 he lived in Argentina , where he trained a children's group.

National team

Viorel Năstase played two games for the Romanian national team . He made his debut against Albania on April 18, 1971 , when he came on for Florian Dumitrescu in the 63rd minute . Five years later he came to his second and last appearance in the first leg of the final of the Balkan Cup 1973/76 . A goal was not granted to him in either game.
