Virgilio López Irías
Virgilio López Irías OFM (born September 29, 1937 in La Ceiba , Honduras , † June 22, 2004 in northern Honduras) was the first bishop of Trujillo
Life
Virgilio López Irías joined the order of the Franciscans , made his profession on August 15, 1964 and was ordained a priest on July 14, 1973 .
Pope John Paul II called him Bishop of Trujillo on July 3, 1987 . The episcopal ordination took place on October 7 of the same year by the Apostolic Nuncio in Honduras and El Salvador , Francesco De Nittis ; Co- consecrators were Héctor Enrique Santos Hernández SDB , Archbishop of Tegucigalpa , and Jaime Brufau Maciá CM , Bishop of San Pedro Sula .
Bishop López Irías died in a car accident on a country road on June 22, 2009 and was buried in the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist in Trujillo.
