Virgin is a city in Washington County , the most southwestern part of the US state of Utah near Zion National Park . The Virgin River , which gave the city its name, runs along the city . The population was 596 according to the 2010 US census . Utah State Route 9 runs through the city . In about two hours (approx. 220 km) you can reach the gambling metropolis Las Vegas in Nevada from Virgin .

According to the United States Census Bureau , Virgin covers an area of 11.9 square miles (30.9 km²) at an elevation of approximately 3606 feet (1099 m). In the north-west of the city is the Hurricane Mesa Test Facility , a former test airfield of the US Air Force that is now only used privately .
Gun ownership obligation
In May 2000, a law was passed, the Virgin of the every household owned a firearm dictates. This was addressed in Michael Moore's film Bowling for Columbine .
