Vittorio Amedeo Costa

Vittorio Amedeo Filiberto Costa, conte di Trinità (* 1698 in Turin ; † May 2, 1777 ibid) was a general and viceroy of the Kingdom of Sardinia-Piedmont .

Life

Vittorio Amedeo Costa, Count of Trinità, came from an old Piedmontese aristocratic family that produced numerous high officers . Two of his brothers also embarked on an officer career in the Piedmontese army .

Vittorio Amedeo Costa was trained at the Turin Military Academy. In 1734 he commanded the Lombardia Foreign Regiment as a colonel , with which he distinguished himself in the War of the Polish Succession at the Battle of Guastalla . In the War of the Austrian Succession , he took part in the battle of Camposanto, the reconquest of Asti , the liberation of Alessandria and defensive battles near Nice . In 1744 Costa was promoted to brigadier , the following year to major general and in February 1749 to lieutenant general . As such, he remained military governor of the city and county of Nice until 1755 . From 1755 to 1758 he was in Sardinia as captain general and viceroy , where he was responsible, among other things, for administrative reform and the repopulation of remote areas. Subsequently, Costa served as governor of Tortona and Novara . In 1763 he became Grand Master of the Royal House and in 1771 General of the Infantry . Costa received the Order of Annunciations in 1763 .
