Vittorio Francesco Viola OFM (born October 4, 1965 in Biella , Italy ) is an Italian religious and Roman Catholic bishop of Tortona .

Life

Vittorio Francesco Viola joined the Franciscan Order and made solemn profession on September 14, 1991 . He received in the July 3, 1993 Patriarchal Basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli (Assisi) the priesthood by Bishop Luca Brandolini from Rome.

He studied liturgical science at the Pontifical Athenaeum Sant'Anselmo , where he initially obtained a licentiate and in 2000 received his doctorate theologiae . In addition to various tasks in the order and in the diocese of Assisi-Nocera Umbra-Gualdo Tadino , he taught liturgical science, including at the Pontifical Athenaeum Sant'Anselmo and at the Theological Institute in Assisi. Until 2014 he was responsible for the diocesan charity in Assisi and was custodian of the Protoconvent of Portiuncula , the “mother house” of the Franciscan order.

Pope Francis appointed him Bishop of Tortona on October 15, 2014 . He was ordained episcopate on December 7th of the same year by the Bishop of Assisi-Nocera Umbra-Gualdo Tadino , Archbishop Domenico Sorrentino ; Co- consecrators were the Archbishop of Perugia-Città della Pieve , Cardinal Gualtiero Bassetti , and his predecessor Martino Canessa .
