Martino Canessa (born July 22, 1938 in Voltri , Province of Genoa , Italy ) is Bishop Emeritus of Tortona .

Life

Martino Canessa was ordained a priest on June 29, 1962 .

Pope John Paul II appointed him titular bishop of Tigisi in Mauretania and auxiliary bishop in Genoa-Bobbio on June 20, 1989 . The Archbishop of Genoa-Bobbio , Giovanni Cardinal Canestri , donated him episcopal ordination on July 9th of the same year; Co- consecrators were Alessandro Piazza , Bishop of Albenga-Imperia , and Giacomo Barabino , Bishop of Ventimiglia-San Remo . As a motto he chose In spe fundati .

On February 2, 1996, John Paul II called him Bishop of Tortona ; the ceremonial inauguration ( enthronement ) took place on April 13 of the same year.

On October 15, 2014, Pope Francis accepted his age-related resignation.
