The Roman Catholic Diocese of Tortona ( lat. : Dioecesis Derthonensis , ital. : Diocese of Tortona ) is in Italy situated Roman Catholic diocese is based in Tortona .

history

The diocese of Tortona was established in the 2nd century and subordinated to the Archdiocese of Milan as a suffragan . In 1014 the diocese of Tortona gave up parts of its territory to establish the diocese of Bobbio . The diocese of Tortona was dissolved in 1803 and the territory was annexed to the diocese of Casale Monferrato .

On July 17, 1817, the diocese of Tortona was re-established by Pope Pius VII with the Apostolic Constitution Beati Petri and subordinated to the Archdiocese of Genoa as a suffragan.

The diocese of Tortona comprises 144 parishes in the province of Alessandria , 143 parishes in the province of Pavia and 27 parishes in the metropolitan city of Genoa .
