history

Beginnings

Out of the need to continue singing in a choir even after graduation , the vocal ensemble incantanti was founded by twelve former members of the choir of the Bündner Kantonsschule and its conductor Christian Klucker in winter 2002/2003. In addition to a cappella music from all eras, Rhaeto-Romanic pieces are also the focus of the choir's work. The ensemble's first CD is a live recording with world premieres of works by Gion Giusep Derungs and Urban Derungs, while the second CD contains works by the Schams composers Tumasch and Benedikt Dolf . The first participation in an international choir competition took place in 2007 at the International Choir Competition of Malta , a competition organized every two years by the Interkultur Association. A third CD with sacred a cappella music was recorded in 2010 in the Reformed Church of Andeer . In preparation for the first participation in the European Youth Choir Festival in Basel and to celebrate its tenth anniversary, the program Best of incantanti was performed in March 2012 and recorded on CD in June. In the same year the vocal ensemble incantanti worked for the first time with the Le Phénix orchestra to perform a baroque program with works by George Frideric Handel . This collaboration was continued in 2015 with a project around the Magnificat by Johann Sebastian Bach . In 2013, in collaboration with the director and screenwriter Felix Benesch , Le petit Tuor was the first «chorical», a combination of choral music, theater and a multi-course menu. In the same year there was also a commemorative event for the 50th anniversary of Tumasch Dolf's death, during which the vocal ensemble incantanti performed songs by Dolf and recorded them on CD.

First international successes

In 2014 the vocal ensemble incantanti was awarded the first prize cum laude in its category at the European Music Festival for Young People in Neerpelt . To celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Hotel Saratz in Pontresina , the second “Chorical” followed in 2015, again written and directed by Felix Benesch. The vocal ensemble incantanti traveled to New York in summer 2016 to take part in the world premiere of Ivo Antogini's A Prayer for Mother Earth at Carnegie Hall . Also in 2016 a CD with choral music by Benedikt Dolf was released in cooperation with RTR .

Turnea da Concurrenza and European Champions

At the Voices for Peace Festival 2017 in Assisi , the choir won in the categories of youth choir and sacred choral music a cappella as well as the conductor award for Christian Klucker. With first prize in the youth choir category at the European Choir Games 2017 in Riga , the vocal ensemble incantanti qualified for participation in the Grand Prix of Nations . At the Swiss Choir Competition 2017 in Aarau , the choir reached third place in the youth choir category and won the audience award given at the closing event. Again in cooperation with RTR, part of the program presented at these competitions was released on CD under the title Concertare-Turnea da Concurrenza 2017 . The second participation in the European Youth Choir Festival Basel took place in May 2018 as part of the eleventh edition of the festival. The vocal ensemble incantanti sang not only at the conventional festival concerts, but also at the extra Songbridge concert , in which three youth choirs from three different language regions of Switzerland were brought together.

The vocal ensemble incantanti could be heard several times on Radio SRF 1 as well as on RTR, for example in the program Fiirabigmusig with pieces by Tumasch and Benedikt Dolf or in contributions to the Swiss choir competition 2017.
