Volker Brecht (born February 20, 1965 in Michelfeld ) is a German Protestant theologian , life and social counselor, lecturer and author.

Life

After graduating from high school in Östringen, Brecht studied theology at the theological seminar of the Liebenzeller Mission from 1984 to 1989 , which was followed by training as a social counselor and coaching at the ARI Institute from 1993 to 1996 and in 2002 at the BTS Association for Psychology and Pastoral Care for Pastoral Care Life advisor added. In 1996, he completed a master's degree at the German branch of Columbia International University at the Academy for World Mission in Korntal. In his master's thesis Between Regional Church and Free Church: The Search of the Community Movement for its own understanding of the community , he examines sustainable community models. From 2001 to 2004 he did a doctorate at the University of South Africa (UNISA) under the supervision of Johannes Reimer , where he graduated with a Master of Theology (M.Th.) in 2003 and in 2005 with his dissertation on the missiological relevance of church counseling was promoted to Doctor of Theology .

From 1989 he worked in the community development of the South German Community in Biberach an der Riss . From 1998 to 2016 he was the managing joint pastor in Böblingen . In addition, since 2004 he has been working as a guest lecturer for business ethics at the Steinbeis University in Berlin and Stuttgart, at the Adelshofen Theological Seminary , since 2006 at the Marburg Bible Seminar and in the social transformation study program he co-founded .

Since 1995 he has worked as a freelance coach and consultant in individual and couple counseling as well as in the area of ​​value-oriented management coaching and management consulting for SMEs and as a speaker. Brecht is a member of the German Network for Business Ethics (DNWE) and author of several management specialist literature.

Since 2016 he has been managing director of the “Foundation for Basic Values ​​and International Understanding”.

Volker Brecht has been married to Birgit since 1990. The couple has three children and lives in Böblingen .
