Volker Ronge (born February 2, 1943 in Guhrau , Guhrau district , Lower Silesia province ) is a German sociologist as well as political and legal scholar.

Life

Volker Ronge, whose family had been expelled from Guhrau at the end of the war in 1945, spent his childhood in Oldenburg. After graduating from high school in 1962, he completed three years as a temporary soldier and then studied political science and law at the Free University of Berlin from 1965 . After his diploma in political science, he worked for three years from 1969 on the research project "Political Planning in the Federal Republic of Germany" of the German Research Foundation under Kurt Sontheimer .

In 1972 Ronge received his doctorate at the University of Bremen and then went to Starnberg to work as a research assistant at the Max Planck Institute for research into the living conditions of the scientific and technical world under Carl Friedrich von Weizsäcker and Jürgen Habermas . In 1976 he completed his habilitation in political science at the Free University of Berlin. In 1979 he became managing director of the Munich opinion research institute Infratest .

In 1982 Ronge accepted a call from the Bergische Universität Wuppertal , where he became Professor of General Sociology with a focus on “Macro-structural analysis of society”. He was also Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences for several years . In 1991 he became Vice Rector for Planning and Finance and thus part of the university management. In 1999 he succeeded Erich Hödl as the fifth rector of the Bergische Universität and in 2008 he handed this office over to Lambert T. Koch .

Volker Ronge holds honorary doctorates from the Technical University of Košice , the Belarusian State University of Computer Science and Radioelectronics in Minsk and the Bashkir State University in Ufa .
