Volker Sellin
Volker Sellin (born August 27, 1939 in Hundsdorf (Westerwald) ) is a German historian . From 1987 to 1991 he was rector of the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg .
Life
Volker Sellin studied history and philosophy in Munich , Valdosta , Tübingen , Heidelberg, Florence and Rome . It was in 1968 Werner Conze with a thesis on the beginnings of state social reform in liberal Italy at the Faculty of Ruprecht-Karls University Heidelberg doctorate . In 1975 he completed his habilitation in Heidelberg with a paper on the financial policy of Karl Ludwig von der Pfalz and his state economy in the reconstruction after the Thirty Years War.
In 1977 Sellin was offered a professorship for early modern history at the University of Stuttgart , and in 1980 he moved to Heidelberg University as a full professor for modern history. He was dean of the Philosophical-Historical Faculty in Heidelberg (1982–1983, 1997–2000) and from October 1, 1987 to September 30, 1991 rector of Heidelberg University. From 2000 to 2003 he was a member of the university council.
Act
Sellin was Erasmus officer for the Universities of Catania , Paris IV (Sorbonne) and Poitiers, and partnership officer for the University of Montpellier .
He was a member of the Commission for Historical Regional Studies in Baden-Württemberg , the Scientific Advisory Board of the German Historical Institute in Rome , the Association of Historians in Germany and the Working Group for the Modern History of Italy. Sellin has been a full member of the Heidelberg Academy of Sciences since 2000 and was secretary of the Philosophical-Historical Class from 2003 to 2007.
He has published numerous academic papers and was co-editor of The International History Review from 2000 to 2006 . He was awarded honorary doctorates from the University of Catania and the Université Paul-Valéry Montpellier . He is an honorary citizen of the city of Montpellier .
Together with Eike Wolgast and Wolfgang U. Eckart , Sellin published a 1200-page anthology in 2006 on the University of Heidelberg under National Socialism.
Sellin is the doctoral supervisor of Silvana Koch-Mehrin , whose doctoral degree was revoked on June 15, 2011 by the doctoral committee of Heidelberg University.
