history

Today's Volksbank Düren eG has its roots in the savings and loan association Derichsweiler eGmuH, which was founded on December 15, 1912. The aim of the savings and loan fund was to make it easier to invest money and promote the idea of saving, as well as granting loans to the comrades.

On June 13, 1916, the general assembly decided to change the company to Derichsweiler eGmbH to Derichsweiler. By resolution of the general assembly on February 19, 1965, the credit cooperative changed its legal form to a registered cooperative with limited liability. Every comrade was a maximum of ten shares purchase. On the basis of the merger agreement of March 8, 1968, the savings and loan fund Derichsweiler eGmbH merged with the savings and loan fund-Merken-Hoven. From then on, Heinz Schulte from Derichsweiler was chairman of the board.

On April 13, 1973, the General Assembly decided to rename the credit cooperative, so that from 1974 the company was changed to Raiffeisenbank Düren-Derichsweiler eG. After approval by the members, the cooperative took over the savings and loan fund Schlich-Echtz eG on June 24, 1977. As a result of this merger, the name was changed to Raiffeisenbank Düren-West eG.

When the name was changed on October 19, 1979, the bank was then called Raiffeisenbank Düren eG. After the merger with the original Volksbank Düren eG (founded in 1893 as Lendersdorfer Savings and Loan Association), on the basis of the merger agreement of September 2nd and 5th, 1986, the credit cooperative traded as Volksbank-Raiffeisenbank Düren eG. This was the first time the word “Volksbank” appeared in the name of the original savings and loan association Derichsweiler. At the general assembly on June 13, 1990, the new and current company name was decided, namely Volksbank Düren eG.

At the beginning of March, Volksbank Düren announced that exploratory talks with the aim of a merger with Volksbank Euskirchen eG would be started in the course of 2020 . If these negotiations go well, the two representative assemblies will decide on the merger in 2021. After the merger, as in the cases of the last mergers, the name “Volksbank Düren” will continue to operate as a branch of Volksbank Euskirchen eG.
