history

Volksbank Emstal eG essentially emerged from three large predecessor institutions. In 2000, the Raiffeisenbank Rütenbrock-Hebelermeer and Lathener Bank merged to form Volksbank Emstal Rütenbrock-Lathen eG. This in turn merged two years later with the savings and loan fund eG Dersum to form today's Volksbank Emstal eG.

Lathener Bank Raiffeisen eG

In times of great problems for the rural economy, 16 farmers from Düthe-Fresenburg, Ober-Niederlangen, Kathen-Frackel and Melstrup founded the Lathener savings and loan association eGhuH on June 22nd, 1886. The motto was: "Even the weak are powerful". In what was then the Brüggemann restaurant on the old market square, 16 farmers came together to realize their ideas for a credit union. In 1910 the Lathener Savings and Loan Association already had 395 members. The working capital was 1,500,000 marks and the association managed 1,350,000 marks in savings, which suggests that the rural population has great confidence. In 1951 the company name of the cooperative changed to Lathener Bank eGmbH. In that year, the bank began holding office hours in the Neusustrum elementary school and in Sustrum-Moor. Two years later, the old farm of the evacuated farmer Anton Rose on Hauptstrasse was acquired for the construction of a modern bank building.

In 1969 the company name changed to Lathener Bank - Raiffeisen - eG due to a new cooperative law. Due to the merger on May 4, 1969, Raiffeisenbank Wippingen became the first branch of Lathener Bank.

In 1980 the Schröder family's estate in Sustrum-Moor was bought. After the renovation, the second branch could be opened here. In 1984 the third branch followed in Niederlangen .

Raiffeisenbank Rütenbrock eG

On November 10, 1895, the "Spar- und Loankasse Rütenbrock eG" was founded. The principle at that time was: “Common good comes before self-interest”. At the founding meeting, 24 men from Rütenbrock and the surrounding bog colonies were present. According to the minutes, Andreas Schoo, Gerhard Dülmer and Max Büter were elected as the first board member. The success of the cash register increased year after year. In 1910 the number of members had risen to 143 and a turnover of 202,473 Marks was recorded. In 1960, branches followed in Erika, in the Kremer-Ochmann house and in Altenberge, in the Mäsker house. Two years later, the board decided to open another branch in the Schleper house in Fehndorf.

In 1968 plans were made for a new building right next to the old bank. Ten years later, at the general assembly on May 18, 1978, the members decided to merge Raiffeisenbank Rütenbrock with Raiffeisenkasse Hebelermeer eG.

Savings and Loan Fund eG Dersum

The foundation for the savings and loan association eG Dersum took place with the meeting chaired by farmer Hermann Ganseforth in July 1922. The board of directors was made up of Gerhard Gruber, Johann Jansen and Gerhard Ahlers. In the first few years business operations took place in the office of the teacher Jansen. After difficult post-war years, the "Spardaka Dersum" merged with the savings and loan bank Steinbild in 1953. As business increased due to the Emsland Plan and the economic miracle, a separate bank building was built in August 1962. The Dersumer Bank was rebuilt and expanded in 1976/77 and 1990. As early as November 1980, the Management Board decided to set up a branch in Hasselbrock.
