Mark Monheim (born September 24, 1977 in Bonn , North Rhine-Westphalia ) is a German director and screenwriter .

Life

Mark Monheim comes from the Aachen entrepreneurial family Monheim and is the son of the transport scientist and emeritus professor of the University of Trier , Heiner Monheim . The emeritus geography professor at the University of Bayreuth , Rolf Monheim and the organist Johannes Geffert are his uncles. His great-great-grandfather was the chocolate manufacturer Leonard Monheim , the brother of the chemist Viktor Monheim . These were both sons of the pharmacist and scientist Johann Peter Joseph Monheim .

Monheim grew up in his native city of Bonn. After graduating from high school, he went to Munich, where he completed his community service at the Hauner Children's Hospital and successfully applied to the Munich University of Television and Film in 1998 . As part of his studies in directing in "Department IV - Documentary and TV Journalism", award-winning short documentary and scenic films were made; for his diploma film At the age of sixteen I'm gone , he received the First Steps Award in 2008 .

Monheim's cinema debut About a Girl (2015), a tragic comedy about a prevented suicide, has won multiple awards and has been invited to over 40 film festivals worldwide.

Together with Stephan Wagner , he wrote the screenplays for the Tatort episodes Ätzend (Berlin), Déjà-vu and Nemesis (Dresden).

The family drama Alles Isy , which Monheim directed together with his co-author Max Eipp , was awarded the Bavarian TV Prize (Best Director) in 2019 and was nominated for the Grimme Prize .

In 2019 he directed three episodes of the Netflix original series Wir sind die Welle (free adaptation of the movie Die Welle .)

Monheim is married and has two children. He lives in Berlin .
