Today's Volksbank Mönchengladbach eG has grown over more than 125 years from the amalgamation of various savings and credit banks, or savings and loan banks and an agricultural goods and credit cooperative.

The savings and loan fund Hochneukirch was founded on November 5, 1882, the savings and loan fund Wanlo on August 5, 1894. On October 7, 1965, the savings and loan fund Hochneukirch emerged from both institutes.

The Savings and Loan Fund Hardt was launched on March 7, 1897, and the Savings and Loan Fund Venn began its work on March 11, 1925. The two banks merged on July 1, 1975 to form Volksbank Mönchengladbach Hardt - Venn .

The founding of the savings and loan fund Lürrip dates back to April 8, 1897.

On September 16, 1901, the Neuwerk savings and loan fund was founded . The Mönchengladbach-Holt cooperative bank was founded on September 13, 1925. Both banks merged on July 2, 1970 to form Spar- und Kreditbank Gladbach.
