List of cooperative banks in Germany

The Volksbank eG Strohgäu was a cooperative bank in Baden-Württemberg, based in Korntal-Münchingen . Their business area extended over part of the Strohgäus in the Ludwigsburg district . It comprised five locations in Münchingen , Gerlingen , Ditzingen , Heimerdingen and Eberdingen as well as five self-service points. In 2018, Volksbank Strohgäu merged with Volksbank Region Leonberg to form Volksbank Leonberg-Strohgäu eG.

history

The bank emerged from the merger of four independent banks. These were created according to the principle of the cooperative idea of Hermann Schulze-Delitzsch and Friedrich Wilhelm Raiffeisen .

It used to be common for banks not only to be financial service providers, but also to operate other lines of business. These included u. a. Dairy cooperatives, slaughterhouses and community freezers. In the 50s and 60s, very few households had refrigerators, instead you could lease or buy freezer compartments for a limited time from the cooperative. Often there was also a fruit collection point or a storage shed for agricultural supplies. Nowadays, the focus is on the financial services business, lending and investing.

Gerlinger Bank eG

On May 14, 1888, a loan association was founded in Gerlingen. The aim was to do all financial transactions on site and to provide members with cheap loans. Gerlingen had 1,940 inhabitants, 209 of whom worked as farmers and were therefore potential beneficiaries of the club's offer. The Kreditkassen-Verein quickly developed into a universal cooperative, which also promoted the inexpensive purchase of goods and machines.

Münchinger Bank eG

On April 11, 1895, 29 farmers and craftsmen from Münchingen founded the Münchingen Loan Association in the town hall. The first bank rooms were rented in the former dairy cooperative. In 1935 the loan association was renamed the Münchingen savings and loan association. In 1955 it became Münchinger Bank eG. It had 398 members and total assets of 1.5 million DM. In the following 16 years the business volume increased fivefold. In 1994 Münchinger Bank eG was one of the 100 largest cooperative banks in Württemberg with a business volume of DM 280 million.

Genossenschaftsbank Heimerdingen eG

The Genossenschaftsbank Heimerdingen eG was founded in Heimerdingen on February 6, 1899. For almost 50 years, business was done in the room of the computer. In 1957, the building in Hausgasse was built together with the dairy cooperative. The cooperative was also active in other areas. Seeders, a meadow roller and disc harrow were purchased for common use. In October 1983, the bank in Heimerdingen moved into new, modern premises in Hausgasse.

Genossenschaftsbank Eberdingen eG

The cooperative was founded in Eberdingen on May 22, 1903. As early as 1874, however, the first savings and "creditor association" was founded. However, this was dissolved again in 1881 due to the establishment of the Oberamtssparkasse. The main purpose of the founding of the loan office in Eberdingen, besides banking and cash-desk business, was trading and brokering agricultural commodities. In 1964, today's bank building was built on Hochdorfer Strasse.

Ditzinger Bank eG

The Ditzinger Bank eG was founded on February 2, 1895 under the chairmanship of the then Schultheißen Stähle as a loan association and entered in the commercial register on September 16, 1897. In 1929 she changed the name to Ditzinger Bank . It survived the global economic crisis largely unscathed. When, in the course of the economic boom in the 1950s, the previous business premises in Gerlinger Strasse proved to be too small, the bank had a new building erected on Weilimdorfer Strasse in 1956/57, which was opened on July 6, 1957. In 1969 another branch was opened at Marktstrasse 17.

Mergers

In 1977 the Eberdingen cooperative bank merged with the Heimerdingen cooperative bank to form “Genossenschaftsbank Heimerdingen-Eberdingen eG”. In Eberdingen there was a high level of deposits, while in Heimerdingen there was a high demand for loans. Since they complemented each other well, it was decided to merge. In 1999 the Genossenschaftsbank Heimerdingen-Eberdingen eG and Ditzinger Bank eG merged with Münchinger Bank eG. These then traded as Volksbank Strohgäu eG, the headquarters are in Münchingen. The then Gerlinger Bank eG joined Volksbank Strohgäu eG on August 21, 2001.
