List of cooperative banks in Germany

The Volksbank Viersen eG is a cooperative bank based in Viersen and seven offices in the catchment area Viersen, Schwalmtal and Niederkrüchten .

history

After the district, purchasing and sales cooperative (KBAG) was founded in 1920, this company and its members did not have their own credit institute. KBAG was just as unable to cover the necessary capital requirements as agriculture and trade. So in 1924 the decision was made to set up their own bank to help finance KBAG's goods business and to provide the farmers with the necessary capital. The members of this pure goods cooperative founded a financial institute on February 29, 1924 called Niederrheinische Bauernbank. On June 9, 1924, the cooperative was entered in the register at the local court after the company name had to be changed for legal reasons. The members finally decided on the name Landwirtschaftliche Bank eGmbH, Dülken . On October 18, 1924, the newly built bank building at Süchtelner Strasse 50 in Dülken was completed. Initially, the KBAG employees took care of the day-to-day work, which meant that the new bank was initially on its way without major costs.

In 1939 the business premises were relocated to the main KBAG building. In 1965 the Neumarkt branch was set up in Dülken and the company name was changed to Spar- und Kreditbank eGmbH Dülken. In 1966 the money business was taken over by the Amern savings and loan fund, which had merged with KBAG, while maintaining a branch in Amern , Hauptstrasse 59. In 1969, the Neumarkt branch was redesigned and expanded into the main branch. In 1970 the main office was relocated from Brabanter Strasse (retained as a branch) to the city center. In 1987 there was a merger with Volksbank Viersen eG, Viersen and the name of the entire bank changed to Volksbank Viersen eG. The merger increased the branch network by three branches in Viersen (Theodor-Heuss-Platz 1, Gereonstrasse 12 and Helenenstrasse 37) and the warehouse at Ernst-Moritz-Arndt-Str. 11 (until 1988). In 1999 a merger with Süchtelner Bank eG followed; the business premises at Tönisvorster Strasse 11 in Süchteln were then used as a branch. In 2010 there was a merger with Volksbank Schwalmtal eG; the branch network was thus expanded to include branches in Niederkrüchten, Rathausstrasse 2–4 and Waldniel , Dülkener Strasse 30–32.

Volksbank Schwalmtal eG is the oldest cooperative in the merger of the cooperative banks in Viersen, Dülken, Süchteln and Schwalmtal. It was founded on February 6, 1894 as the Niederkrüchtener Savings and Loan Fund Association eGmuH, based in Niederkrüchten.

Also on view is a large-format work (5 meters by 1 meter) by the artist Emil Schult , who wrote history together with the German music group Kraftwerk in the 1970s. It is about the work "The History of Money", in which important stages from social payment transactions to the euro are shown on five panels. The panel paintings were created using gold leaf, silver leaf, copper and paint in the technique of reverse glass painting, which Emil Schult perfected. Other smaller works by Emil Schult decorate some offices.
