The volleyball DDR-Oberliga the women was 1985/86 held for the 36th time. It began on November 9, 1985 and ended on February 9, 1986. SC Dynamo Berlin successfully defended its title from the previous year and secured its 15th championship ahead of SC Traktor Schwerin and TSC Berlin . In the subordinate GDR league, the second representation from SC Traktor Schwerin descended.

mode

The new volleyball GDR Oberliga consisted of eight teams again after 1964 and consisted of the usual four club teams of the so-called Klubliga and the first four of the old Oberliga 1984/85. Because of international tasks (European Cup), defending champions SC Dynamo Berlin and runner-up SC Traktor Schwerin only entered the championship in the second round. The games were played according to the round system with preliminary round, intermediate round (championship round) and B-final round (relegation round), each with a return leg from the beginning of November 1985 to the beginning of February 1986. In the final, the two best teams from the intermediate round met each other.

Preliminary round

In the preliminary round, the "everyone against everyone" mode was played in a round trip and a second round. The first two teams qualified for the intermediate round, in which the two finalists were determined. The last four teams had to go to the B-final round and determined who were relegated to the GDR league.
