Vorderhindelang is a district of the Bad Hindelang market in the Bavarian-Swabian district of Oberallgäu . The hamlets of Reckenberg, Riedle, Liebenstein and Groß belong to Vorderhindelang.

The village is located on a south-facing slope above the federal highway 308 , which leads from Lake Constance via Sonthofen , Bad Hindelang, Oberjoch into the Tannheimer Tal and on to Reutte / Tyrol . Vorderhindelang has been able to maintain its rural, agricultural structure to this day.

history

The first documentary mention of Vorderhindelang took place in a court document of March 22, 1412, in which it concerns a purchase contract of the resident Contz Plantz. Since several possessions are mentioned in the village, it can be assumed that Vorderhindelang is much older.

In documents and parish registers, Vorderhindelang is listed as "Vorder Kirchdorf" (1661), but also as "Vord Hindelang" and "Vorderes Hindelang". The historical affiliation of the village is the same as that of Bad Hindelang. From 1540 to 1823, the salt road ran through the center of the village, coming from the Tannheimer Valley over the Joch Pass through the Ostrach Valley to Lake Constance . In 1785 in the course of the establishment of fire and fire damage insurance companies by the Rettenberg nursing office, house numbers were introduced in Vorderhindelang , which led to the creation of house brands . In some cases, the house brands used in Vorderhindelang resemble Latin numerals.

Attractions

The S. Thomas branch chapel was built in 1666 as the Thomaskapelle Zuem Vodern Hindelang after a previous building had been demolished. Around 1750 a renovation and the stucco decoration of the choir took place, in 1951 the building was renovated and extended in 1967/68. The chapel has a roof turret with an onion dome; the gable roof is covered with shingles. The ship has a flat, arched plaster ceiling; the gallery is paneled. The high altar dates from around 1720/30 and is decorated with a younger wooden structure and a picture of the patron saint of the chapel from 1851. The tabernacle and the cafeteria also date from this period. Wall paintings from the time the chapel was built were uncovered during the restoration. They show the apostles and St. Michael. A votive tablet from 1670 was donated by the Hindelang mare yard manager and salt factor Thomas Scholl and his wife Rosina, other paintings are more recent. The sculptural decoration is high to late baroque; What has been preserved is a mother of God who seems to have originated under influences from the Kempten area, a dungeon Christ by Johann Richard Eberhard and a crucifix.

An atonement cross from 1550 is set into a concrete garden wall in the village. The town center is architecturally closed in traditional Allgäu construction.
