Forests in the foreland of the southern Franconian Alb
Forests in the foothills of the southern Franconian Alb (ID: 6832-471) is the name of a European bird sanctuary in Bavaria , which essentially serves to implement the Bern Convention as part of the Bird Protection Directive ( Natura 2000 ) that came into force in 1979 . It has an area of 2,848.35 hectares . The bird sanctuary includes the area of some forests in the Central Franconian districts of Roth and Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen .
The southernmost point of the bird sanctuary is north of Mischelbach , near Sandsee Castle , and extends northeast to Hilpoltstein . The centrally located town of Laffenau is excluded from the bird sanctuary . The forest area Tännig between Eysölden and Offenbau near Thalmässing is an exclave of the protected area . The protected forest areas are next to the Tännig, the Röttenbacher forest and the Laffenau forest .
The bird sanctuary forests in the foothills of the southern Franconian Alb is located in the Franconian Keuper-Lias-Land (11) within the main natural area for the foothills of the southern Franconian Alb (113).
