Wörthersee architecture

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The so-called Wörthersee architecture shaped the appearance of the cultural landscape around the Wörthersee between the opening of the then private southern railway and the “ connection of Austria ” from 1864 to 1938 . Castles, villas, boat houses and bathing houses around the lake have been built in the so-called “Wörthersee style”. Examples can be found in Pörtschach , Velden , Krumpendorf , Klagenfurt and on the south bank of the lake.

Wörthersee architecture

Friedrich Achleitner describes the so-called Wörthersee architecture , in a text about one of its most famous representatives, as a mix between Art Nouveau and regional romanticism , Baroque and English country house architecture . It thus represents the regional expression of the historic home style in the Carinthian lake area , and has peculiarities in it that differentiate it from the summer architecture in the Semmring area or the Salzkammergut ( Salzkammergut style ).

“Not just one of the first, but without a doubt also one of Baumgartner's best buildings in Carinthia. Art Nouveau and regional romanticism, baroque and English country house architecture led to an incredibly variable architectural vocabulary that could be used in every situation, whether with a small or large property, in the range between comfort and representation, between public aspirations and private seclusion. Baumgartner created a set of instruments for the so-called Wörthersee architecture that could satisfy all demands on sophisticated recreational architecture. "
