Franz Eduard Josef Baumgartner (born June 27, 1876 in Vienna , † October 14, 1946 in Velden am Wörther See ) was an Austrian architect and the most important representative of Wörthersee architecture .

Life

Franz Baumgartner studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. In 1903 he began teaching as an assistant at the kk Staatsgewerbeschule in Vienna. In 1905 he was first mentioned as an architect. In 1906 Baumgartner came as a specialist teacher at the kk Staats-Handwerkerschule in Klagenfurt (forerunner of the current Federal Technical College). With this he moved to Villach (today HTL Villach ) in 1908 . From 1929 to 1937 he was director of this school.

In 1909 Baumgartner was awarded the title of professor. His universal talent and his tireless diligence have had a major impact on the architecture and construction activity in Carinthia. Baumgartner was a member of various commissions and associations, such as B. the master builder examination commission and the art association for Carinthia.

Franz Baumgartner is buried in a grave of honor in Velden am Wörther See .
