Clearing as the location of the Gettengrün desert

The Gettengrün desert is a desert near Hallerstein , today part of the town of Schwarzenbach an der Saale in the Upper Franconian district of Hof .

The area of the desert lies in the forest at the foot of the Kreuzstein, southwest of Hallerstein. Today the clearing is called “Herrenhut”, other field names such as Herrenhofwiese or Gettengrüner Wiese still indicate the desert. An old road or pass road leads over the mountain not far , the trumpet stone on the mountain top is a monument . Kreuzstein and Wüstung are stops on a historic circular hiking trail. In the middle of the clearing flows the Über Maßbach, which today flows into the Förmitztalsperre . The name Gettengrün is associated with the Waldstein ghetto , who built the Ostburg around 1170 . In 1361, the later no longer mentioned "Geilengrün" was also listed in a document with places in the Münchberg area . 1417 appeared in a document "Setteingrün" as a desert. In 1419 Rüdiger von Sparneck received Gettengrün and other places from King Wenzel as fiefs. The desert is part of a belt of desertions in the Münchberg plateau , including Brandenstumpf , the Förmitzer Meierhof and Niedernörmitz . During the construction of Hallerstein Castle , the settlement was abandoned. The Germanisches Nationalmuseum dated ceramic finds to the 14th century.
