Wade Dubielewicz (born January 30, 1979 in Invermere , British Columbia ) is a Canadian ice hockey goalkeeper who was last under contract with the Cologne Sharks in the DEL .

Career

Wade Dubielewicz began his career in junior leagues in the Canadian province of British Columbia before he attended the University of Denver in 1999 . Four years he brought there very good performances and in 2002 in the first all-star team of the WCHA Division, who belongs to the University of Denver, and selected for the Hobey Baker Award nominated .

After he left college in 2003, the New York Islanders signed him as a free agent . He completed his first season with the professionals mainly in the American Hockey League with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers , where he stood out through outstanding performance. He managed nine shutouts in 33 games , had a catch rate of over 94 percent and an average goal conceded of just 1.38. When Rick DiPietro , the Islanders' regular goalkeeper, was unable to play in March 2004, Dubielewicz was appointed to the NHL squad and took the position as the back-up goalkeeper behind Garth Snow . After Snow got injured, Dubielewicz came to his first two appearances in the NHL, which were relatively positive. At the end of the season he was named the best new professional by the AHL and shared the Harry "Hap" Holmes Memorial Award with Dieter Kochan as the goalkeeper team with the fewest goals conceded.

In the 2004/05 season he could no longer build on the great performances of the previous year, but still played a solid season in the AHL. In 2005/06 Dubielewicz played again most of the season in the AHL and was only used seven times in the NHL when DiPietro was injured. Garth Snow became general manager in the summer of 2006, but Dubielewicz did not make it to the NHL squad again because Mike Dunham was preferred to him.

Dubielewicz had a very good season with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers in the AHL when he was called back to the NHL squad in March 2007 because DiPietro had suffered a concussion. At first he was number two behind Mike Dunham, but he showed great weaknesses and so Dubielewicz temporarily took over the position as regular goalkeeper. He proved to be a strong support in the fight for the playoffs . In the decisive final game for a playoff place, however, he failed 0.8 seconds before the end when he conceded the equalizer against the New Jersey Devils . The game ultimately had to be decided in the shootout and Dubielewicz became a hero when he parried two attempts. The Islanders qualified for the playoffs at the last second and Dubielewicz was voted best player of the week by the NHL, which only Wiktor Koslow had achieved in the season with the Islanders . In the first game of the playoffs he was again in goal for the Islanders, but was replaced in the second game by the recovered DiPietro. Dubielewicz remained in the Islanders' squad as Rick DiPietro's back-up goalie. After the first round, the Islanders were eliminated.

In early May 2007, the New York Islanders extended Dubielewicz by a year, which he spent again as a replacement for DiPietro. In the summer of 2008 he decided to move to Ak Bars Kazan in the Continental Hockey League . After only half a year there, his ex-team, the New York Islanders, suffered an injury misery in the goalkeeping area, whereupon Dubielewicz asked for his clearance in Kazan and returned to North America after signing a new contract with the Islanders. Since he had already played in a professional league in the KHL, he first had to be placed on the waiver list for 24 hours , from where any of the other 29 teams could select him. The Columbus Blue Jackets took advantage of this opportunity .
