location

The 167 hectare area, which was placed under nature protection in 2016 , is located in the city of Wadern , districts Gehweiler , Wadern, Wadrill and Wedern . It consists of two sub-areas north of Wadern and north of Wadrill.

The southern sub-area begins in the north of the city of Wadern, about 2 km north of the confluence of the river Wadrill (Prims) in the Prims . From there, the area extends west of the L 150 state road northwards via Wedern to the municipality of Gehweiler. The northern sub-area begins northwest of the municipality of Wadrill and follows the course of the Wadrill river to the state border with Rhineland-Palatinate west of Grimburg Castle . The continuation of the valley on the Rhineland-Palatinate side is also a nature reserve, the Wadrilltal between Felsenmühle and Grimburg .

meaning

The southern of the two sub-areas of the nature reserve with a size of 152 hectares was designated as Wadrilltal near Wedern as a nature reserve NSG-116 in 2005 and integrated into the newly created Walldrilltal area in 2016.

The purpose of protection is the preservation, restoration and development of a favorable conservation status, including spatial networking, the predominant plant and animal species and their habitats.
