So trying defense industry in the area of arms proliferation and arms control , export controls to prevent weapons or loosen. The term gun lobby is also applied to marksmen, hunters and paintball players in the area of private gun ownership .

Arms industry organizations

On the part of the armaments industry , particular attention is paid to the sale of the products. This is primarily about the worldwide sale of war weapons to the military. The field of hunting and sporting weapons is of less economic importance for some weapon manufacturers and ammunition suppliers. Manufacturers of military rifles and pistols, such as B. the German manufacturer of handguns Heckler & Koch have only a comparatively small production for the civilian market. Others operate a mixed production for both government and civil markets such as B. the company Carl Walther GmbH or the Italian weapons manufacturer Beretta . Sports and hunting weapons are mostly made by specialized manufacturers such as JG Anschütz or Feinwerkbau .

In North and South America, the majority of arms and ammunition manufacturers (with the exception of the CIP member state Chile) are organized through the Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturers' Institute (SAAMI). The SAAMI acts as a lobby for arms, ammunition and explosives manufacturers, dealers and users at the US authorities and the United Nations, advising on the development of legislation.

In Europe, this task is carried out by the IEACS “ Institut Europeen des Armes de Chasse et de Sport ” and the AFEMS “ Association of European Manufacturers of Sporting Ammunition ”. Like SAAMI, both associations are members of the international World Forum on the Future of Sport Shooting Activities .

Arms trade organizations

In Europe, arms trade associations have founded the umbrella organization AECAC. The abbreviation stands for “ Association Europeenne de Commerce d´armes civiles ”. According to its own description, the goals of the umbrella association are to collect experience and knowledge from the trade in civilian weapons for hunting and sport, to secure the economic foundations of the profession and to represent the interests of the member associations in professional, economic and social fields vis-à-vis industry , the international or European institutions, and especially the EU.

Private gun ownership organizations

Hunters , marksmen and paintball players are also partly included in the weapons lobby . However, the gun users are not a homogeneous group.

International

Internationally, the World Forum on the Future of Sport Shooting Activities (WFSA), which according to their own account represents 100 million people, and the IAPCAR (International Association for the Protection of Civilian Arms Rights) are active in lobbying. The interests of gun owners in shooting sports are represented internationally by the Munich-based ISSF (International Shooting Sport Federation).
