Wagner Tiso Veiga

Wagner Tiso Veiga (born December 12, 1945 in Três Pontas ) is a Brazilian jazz musician ( piano , keyboards , accordion , arrangement ) and film composer , who is also known internationally as the sideman of top acts of the Música Popular Brasileira .

Live and act

As a pianist, Tiso was initially self-taught . As a teenager he performed with Milton Nascimento , with whom he has been friends since then. From 1958 to 1961 he was one of the W's Boys. Then he moved to Belo Horizonte , where he was part of the Berimbau Trio between 1962 and 1964 . In 1964 he went to Rio de Janeiro, where he made his first recordings as a member of the Sambacana formation . During this time he also worked as a pianist in Edison Machado's quartet (1934–1990). From 1965 to 1967 he was part of Paulo Moura's ensemble , with whom he learned to arrange. Then he accompanied Cauby Peixoto and Marcos Valle. In 1969 he composed the score for Ruy Guerra's feature film Os Deuses. From 1969 he accompanied Milton Nascimento. Between 1970 and 1974 he was part of the Som Imaginário Ensemble , with whom he performed internationally and released several critically acclaimed albums. He also accompanied Airto Moreira and Wayne Shorter ( Native Dancer ). With Flora Purim and Ron Carter he performed at the 1974 Montreux Jazz Festival . In 1975 he was named “best arranger” for albums by Nascimento, Fafá de Belém and Gal Costa .

After further film scores, he released his first solo album in 1978, which earned him another award. The next albums and other compositions for the film also received a lot of attention in Brazil. He also arranged for Al Jarreau and Carlinhos Brown . In the field of jazz he was involved in 51 recordings between 1959 and 1999, especially those by Milton Nascimento and Paulo Moura. He also recorded with Taiguara, Robertinho Silva , Nivaldo Ornelas and Manhattan Transfer ( Brazil ).
