description
By resolution of March 18, 1991, the forest area with an area of around 9.4 hectares was designated as a nature reserve. The Bavarian State Ministry for the Environment and Consumer Protection assigned the cadastral number NSG-00383.01 to the protected area. The area is part of the Natura 2000 network and was assigned to the Maintal area between Schweinfurt and Dettelbach. In addition, the entire area is designated as a bird sanctuary and a flora-fauna habitat.
The protection purpose of the nature reserve is to preserve a type of hillside forest that is rare in the Middle Main Valley. The forest has a great diversity of species, especially of spring geophytes . In addition, protection applies to the mixed deciduous forest with its transitions to the hardwood floodplain and its light forest structure. Above all, the woody species composition is considered worthy of protection.
