The Schloßbergsattel near Markt Einersheim (the western part also the natural forest reserve Speckfeld ) is a nature reserve in the districts of Iphofen - Birklingen and Markt Einersheim in the Lower Franconian district of Kitzingen .

location

The Schloßbergsattel lies north of the market town of Einersheimer on the Steigerwald step between the Schwanberg foreland and the northern Steigerwald . The center of the protected area is formed by the elevations Sonnenberg, Vogelgesang and the Schloßberg, on which the Speckfeld castle ruins stand in the middle of the nature reserve; in the northeast it protrudes far into the Speckfeld forest. There, the border of the Kitzingen district closes the protected area.

The area is divided into two parts: in the west there are typical open areas , in the east larger forest areas . A narrow transition with a higher proportion of trees mediates between the two areas. The nature reserve is part of the landscape protection area (LSG), formerly a protection zone, within the Steigerwald nature park, which includes large parts of the Steigerwald. At the same time, large areas are designated as bird sanctuaries and fauna and flora habitats .

description

The eastern part of today's nature reserve was designated as the Speckfeld natural forest reserve in 1978 , which at that time comprised 18.6 hectares . In 2002 the open land areas became a nature reserve. The great structural diversity is typical for the approximately 78 hectare area. What both parts have in common is the strongly agitated soil relief , which is structured by chains of hills and depressions and which can be traced back to the different degrees of weathering of the geological layers.

The western part with the open land has many endangered species of flora and fauna. A typical example is the sand lizard ( Lacerta agilis ). The Esparsette rams ( Zygaena carniolica ), a species of butterfly, prefer the flowers of the forage Esparsette ( Onobrychis viciifolia ), a rarity worth protecting in the nature reserve. The Kronwicken-Silberfleckbläuling ( Plebejus argyrognomon ) is dependent on the vineyards in the area. The orchid orchid ( Orchis militaris ) and the field litter ( Eryngium campestre ) are rare .

The former natural forest reserve Speckfeld with its extensive forests offers the stag beetle ( Lucanus cervus ) a preferred habitat. It lays its eggs in the abundant dead wood of dead trees. The forest also provides a retreat for several forest bats. The fringed bat ( Myotis nattereri ) and the Bechstein's bat ( Myotis bechsteinii ) need light, tiered trees for their hunt.
