The Mainhang at the Vogelsburg is a nature reserve in the districts of the Volkach districts of Escherndorf and Astheim in the district of Kitzingen , as well as on the district of Eisenheim in the district of Würzburg in Lower Franconia.

location

The nature reserve is located in the far west of the Volkach municipality and in the south of the Eisenheim area. In the Volkach area, the protected area touches the district of Astheim before it passes over the hallway of the Vogelsburg to the district of Escherndorf. The nature reserve runs out in the east in the suburb of Untereisenheim .

The area is bounded in the north by the Main, which draws a loop there. In the west and east, fields frame the reserve, while in the south the Mainschleifenbahn forms the border of the nature reserve.

By resolution of October 7, 1993, the nature reserve at the Vogelsburg was designated with an area of ​​around 53 hectares . The Bavarian State Ministry for the Environment and Consumer Protection assigned the cadastral number NSG-00454.01 to the protected area. The protected area is part of the Natura-2000 network and thus an element of the Maintal protected area between Schweinfurt and Dettelbach with the number DE6027471. In addition, the entire area is designated as a bird sanctuary and a flora-fauna habitat.

The subject of protection is the northern impact slope at the foot of the Vogelsburg with hillside forest, semi-arid grass, bushes and the biotopes on the banks of the Main. The impact slope is also registered as a geotope with the number 675R004 as part of the Volkacher Mainschleife . The preservation of the characteristic Main loop is also reflected as a protective purpose.
