The Astheimer Dürringswasen (also known as Weißer Sand ) are a nature reserve in the district of the Volkach district of Astheim in the Lower Franconian district of Kitzingen .

location

The nature reserve is located in the southwest of the Astheim district and lies south of the KT 31 district road. In the west, it is bordered by a large quarry pond, and fields frame the reserve to the south and east. Astheimer Straße Am Weißen Sand is named after the protected area.

description

With a resolution of September 27, 1977, the former natural monument Astheimer Dürringswasen was converted into a nature reserve and in 1978 it became the first reserve in the Kitzingen district. It was an area of ​​2.5 hectares that enclosed hallway # 661. In the course of time the protected area was enlarged bit by bit. An expansion took place in 2000: the nature reserve increased from 3.4 hectares to 9.8 hectares, almost tripling it. Today the protected area covers an area of ​​11.3 hectares.

The protected area is part of the Natura-2000 network and thus an element of the Maintal protected area between Schweinfurt and Dettelbach with the number DE6027471. In addition, the entire area is designated as a bird sanctuary and a flora-fauna habitat. The area received the number NSG-00574.01 from the Bavarian State Ministry for the Environment and Consumer Protection.

The purpose of the nature reserve is to preserve the European endangered species of silver loin (lat. Jurinea cyanoides ). In addition, the area is a relict site of the sandy grass heaths, which have some rare flowering plants, mosses, mushrooms and various types of lichen.

Flora and fauna

The nutrient-poor soils are biotopes for warmth-loving plant and animal communities. In addition to the endangered silver-lip come to Dürringswasen mountain alyssum (lat. Alyssum montanum ssp.
