The Kranzer is a nature reserve in the district of Großlangheim in the Lower Franconian district of Kitzingen .

location

The nature reserve is located in the north-east of the Großlangheim district and is directly connected to the built-up area of the old town. The forest sections of the Schwarzacher Tännig begin further north at some distance , where the “ Belkers bei Großlangheim ” protected area is located. Which runs south state highway in 2272 by as can be found in the west county road 12 KT and the Grand Langheimer industrial park. The streets "Kranzerweg" and "Kranzerhöhe" in Großlangheim were named after the nature reserve. The Kitzingen – Schweinfurt railway line, which has now been closed, cuts the protected area.

description

The first indications of conservation efforts date back to January 9, 1955. At that time there was a sheep pasture on the littered meadows of the Kranzers, which polluted the water of the water pool, which is now also a protected area. There were also hay meadows here, while parts of it served as rubble for the community. As early as the 1950s, the area was converted into a natural monument . However, from 1962 the land consolidation office in Würzburg and the Deutsche Bahn began to create a drainage ditch here, which drained large parts of the area to the right of the railway line and almost completely destroyed the biotope.

Thereupon the Würzburg Botanical Garden intervened and referred to the unique landscape for southern Germany with its moist gypsum soils . The community of Großlangheim contacted the railway and asked for a water passage for the railway embankment because the moisture had now penetrated into the neighboring cellars. The track turned and the wreath was evenly watered again.

In the period that followed, the Federal Nature Conservation Association began to intensify its efforts to purchase the area. At first, the community of Großlangheim refused to do so, before about 5 hectares were offered for sale. During a site inspection in 1966, it was found that the water level in the area was too high. The construction of an attack weir should help. By 1969, the Federal Nature Conservation Union had managed to buy around 6 hectares of the area.

In 1984 the nature reserve "Kranzer" was established in the area of the natural monument "Kranzer, Streuwiesen und Wassertümpel". It still protects the former flax holes with an adjacent wet meadow , which are unique for this region . A rich flora and fauna could develop on them. In particular, rare species of orchids can be found here. To this day, however, the protected area is also used by humans, and it is necessary to cut back the meadows in the area once a year.
