Waldemar Zacharasiewicz

Waldemar Zacharasiewicz (born September 24, 1942 in Graz ) is an Austrian English and Americanist .

Live and act

Zacharasiewicz was promoted to Dr. phil. obtained his doctorate and habilitation in English philology with Franz Karl Stanzel at the University of Graz in 1974 . In 1974 he was appointed full professor of English and American studies at the University of Vienna , where he taught until his retirement in 2010. From 1994 he was a corresponding and from 2000 a real member of the philosophical-historical class of the Austrian Academy of Sciences . Since 2012 he has headed the commission The North Atlantic Triangle: Social and Cultural Exchange between Europe, the USA and Canada as chairman.

For many years he was committed to the cultural exchange between North America and Austria. In addition to linguistics and literary studies, his research areas included American studies, English studies, comparative literature , cultural history and modern history . Together with Werner Sollors , he did long research in the field of cultural self-images .
