The building Walderseestrasse 3 in Hanover, also called Haus Madsack , is a listed villa on the edge of the Eilenriede in Hanover's List district . The building erected by the architect Fritz Höger in the 1920s as a residence for the newspaper publisher Erich Madsack is distinguished by its special quality compared to the surrounding villas.
History and description
The architect Fritz Höger, who is considered an “outstanding representative of Expressionism ”, built the representative house for the then editor-in-chief and later newspaper publisher Erich Madsack during the Weimar Republic and in 1928 around the same time as the Anzeiger high-rise . The Madsack house still looks like a two-storey cube under its protruding tent roof , which is broken up by several single-storey, flat-roofed extensions. In clear contrast to the vertically structured high-rise building on the Goseriede, the facade of the residential building emphasizes a strongly structured horizontal line : This has the effect of design elements such as the horizontal joints and cornices protruding from the brickwork, and the large overhangs of the dormers and roofs. In this sense, the windows were also provided with horizontal muntin division
The cultural historian Peter Struck compared the former Madsack house with the phrase coined by the American architect Frank Lloyd Wright of the " poetry of nesting."
The house at Walderseestrasse 3 is used today by the Markuskindergarten, the kindergarten of the united ev.-luth. Apostles and -Mark - parish .
