Pilgrimage Church of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary (Ilgen)
The pilgrimage church of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary is a pilgrimage church in Ilgen, a district of the municipality of Steingaden in the Upper Bavarian district of Weilheim-Schongau .
history
The distinctively at the national road 17 located baroque Saalkirche with extruded, three-sided closing chorus and a roof turret on the West Gable originated from 1670 to 1676 at the site of the 1564 Steingadener Abt Joachim Wiedemann built Pestkapelle. The builder was Johann Schmuzer from Wessobrunn , who also created the rich stucco . For Schmuzer, Ilgen was the first major church building he was responsible for.
The interior of the church was restored from 1939 to 1949 and 2008/09, the exterior was renovated in 1981/82 and 2008/09.
Furnishing
The miraculous image on the high altar is a late Gothic wooden sculpture of the Virgin and Child from the 15th century, above it the Visitation of Mary as an altarpiece , painted by the monastery brother of Steingaden, Lukas Schwaiger , based on a painting by Rubens .
The altar painting on the right side altar is by Johann Georg Bergmüller from Augsburg .
The Steingaden abbot Hyazinth Gassner had two side chapels added in the course of the growing pilgrimage in 1735. The rococo stucco in the side chapels was made by Franz Xaver Schmuzer from Wessobrunn .

The organ with 10 stops on a manual and pedal was built in 1723 by Augustin Simnacher (born January 27, 1688 in Irsingen , † October 24, 1757 in Brixen ) from Tussenhausen . It is still largely original. The disposition is:
