History of the pilgrimage

In May 1613, several residents from Pipinsried made a pilgrimage to Regensburg to St. Wolfgang on the occasion of the translation of his bones to Regensburg. They brought back several pictures of St. Wolfgang from this trip. They placed one of the pictures in the hollow of a tree. When this tree was felled years later, the picture fell out. According to legend, this image of St. Wolfgang returned several times on a tree stump in the forest after the pastor of Pipinsried had placed it on the altar of his church. This fact and the fact that the person who found the picture had found help with a physical ailment after being invoked caused so much attention that a wooden column was erected at the place where the picture was found. Because the rush to the holy image continued to increase, the column was replaced by a wooden chapel, which was granted permission to perform (licentia celebrandi) on October 26, 1638 . This wooden chapel was replaced in 1693 by a stone church that on July 6, 1695 ordained was. It is still in its original form today.

In the district of Dachau, the baroque church is one of the artistic treasures of the area. Even if some of the furnishings have been stolen in recent years, the baroque church interior is still worth seeing.

The church was painted by Ignaz Mayr around 1746 and painted by Franz Xaver Feichtmayr the Elder. Ä. , from which the pulpit originates, provided with stucco.

The interior is structured by pilasters. The semicircular final choir is structured by a surrounding entablature. The exposure takes place through round windows in shield arches.

The from Kistler built Melchior Obermayr high altar was designed by the Indersdorfer Johann Georg Vogt and passed . It has a column structure. Its stage-like character is emphasized by the altarpiece, which has been moved back about a meter. The altar is closed at the top by an essay on whose halo the Holy Trinity is depicted. Today's altarpiece of St. Wolfgang was created later.

There are three paintings by Ignaz Mayr on the ceiling depicting the life of St. Address Wolfgang:

  • Bußstein by St. Wolfgang (in the choir)
  • St. Wolfgang comes to the new church in Pipinsried (in the nave)
  • St. Wolfgang and the Devil (above the gallery)

The gallery parapet is set.
