Angela Morley
Angela Morley (born March 10, 1924 in Leeds , England as Walter Stott , † January 14, 2009 in Scottsdale , Arizona ) was a British composer and conductor . She also wrote music under the stage names Walter Scott or Wally Stott .
Life
Angela Morley was a transgender woman and was born Walter (Wally) Stott. In 1972 she underwent sex reassignment surgery . Her entry into a career in composition and arrangement was attributed to the influence and support of the Canadian film and easy listening composer Robert Farnon . In the 1960s she worked - still as Wally Stott - with the singers Shirley Bassey and Dusty Springfield . The first five solo albums by Scott Walker largely bear the signature of their orchestral arrangements . Morley's best-known works include the music for the cartoon Watership Down (1978). She received three Emmy Awards for her musical work . She was also nominated twice for an Oscar . Angela Morley later lived in Scottsdale, Arizona, USA. On January 14, 2009, she died there of a fall and a subsequent heart attack . She was 84 years old.
Works
Angela Morley was originally a light music composer. One of her best known works is Rotten Row . Also of note is A Canadian in Mayfair , a tribute to Robert Farnon's Portrait of a Flirt . Morley also became known for his film music, including Captain Nemo (1969), Cinderella's Silver Shoe (1976), Watership Down (1978) and music for individual parts of the series Denver Clan , The Colbys , Dallas , Falcon Crest and Hotel .
