Walter Baumgartner (politician)

Walter Baumgartner (born September 13, 1956 in Klausen ) is an Italian politician of the South Tyrolean People's Party and sports functionary.

Life

Baumgartner graduated from the University of Innsbruck with a degree in business administration , which he completed in 1980 with a thesis . He then worked for a mortgage bank, the South Tyrolean Entrepreneurs' Association, the South Tyrolean National Association of Craftsmen and the Association of Merchants and Service Providers .

In 1985 Baumgartner was elected to the municipal council of the city of Klausen, from 1990 to 1995 he was deputy mayor there. In the state elections in 1998 , he was able to win a mandate for the South Tyrolean state parliament and, at the same time, the regional council of Trentino-South Tyrol on the list of the South Tyrolean People's Party . Baumgartner - parliamentary group leader of his party - managed to move into the House again in 2003 . In 2008 he missed re-election. After Dieter Steger , who had been declared ineligible by the Regional Court of Bozen , he was able to move up to the state parliament on February 1, 2011. On February 1, 2013, he again took over the post of parliamentary group chairman, which had become vacant when Elmar Pichler Rolles moved to the state government . Before the state elections in 2013 , he decided not to run again.

In 2009 the general assembly of the club members elected him president of FC Südtirol .
