Walter Froescher

Walter Eberhard Fröscher (born March 14, 1941 in Biberach an der Riss ) is a German neurologist and psychiatrist as well as an epileptologist with additional qualifications in physical therapy and psychotherapy .

Life

After studying medicine in Tübingen , Bonn and again in Tübingen ( state examination and doctorate in 1967) and the time as a medical assistant from 1967-69 (Tübingen and Laupheim ), he also completed his specialist training as a doctor for neurology and psychiatry from 1969 to 1973 in Bonn with Hans-Jörg Weitbrecht .

At the University Psychiatric Clinic in Bonn he was initially an assistant doctor , from 1976 senior physician (from 1978 at the Clinic for Neurology, from 1981 at the newly created University Clinic for Epileptology (with Heinz Penin )). In 1978 he completed his habilitation in neurology and psychiatry, and in 1982 he was appointed professor.

In 1984 Fröscher was Visiting Associate Professor in the Department of Neurology at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland, USA.

From 1985 to 2005 he was the head physician in the Department of Neurology and, from 1995, the Department of Neurology and Epileptology Weissenau (partner in the Epilepsy Center Bodensee) of the Center for Psychiatry South Württemberg (Department Psychiatry I of the University of Ulm ), ZFP Weissenau for short.

After his retirement, Fröscher worked in a neurological practice until 2014.

In 1991, after his habilitation, Fröscher became an adjunct professor for neurology and psychiatry at the University of Ulm ,

From 1991 to 1995 he was a member of the board of directors of the Kork Epilepsy Center .

He is Associate Editor of the Journal of Epileptology ( Warsaw ) and was a board member of the Epilepsy Center Bodensee until July 2019.

After being an honorary member of the Polish League against Epilepsy since 1993, Fröscher was made an honorary member of the German Society for Epileptology in 2010

Among other things, Fröscher carried out an early randomized study on the benefit of determining blood levels in epilepsy therapy. He was a member of the therapy commission of the German section of the International League Against Epilepsy (since 2004: German Society for Epileptology ) and in 1994 a founding member of the German-Austrian-Swiss working group (DACH-AK) Epilepsy. He also succeeds in setting up an epilepsy ward in the ZfP Weissenau and in establishing the Lake Constance Epilepsy Center together with the Liebenau Foundation (Meckenbeuren).
