Walter Koschorreck

Walter Koschorreck (born January 16, 1915 in Halle (Saale) ; † March 13, 1978 in Heidelberg ) was a German lawyer and librarian. From 1965 to 1978 he headed the Heidelberg University Library .

Life

Koschorreck attended the Herzog-Albrechts-Schule in Rastenburg . After graduating from high school, he studied German, history, geography and law at the Albertus University in Königsberg . He was the leader of the comradeship "Honigfelde". After the war he became a library trainee in Jena and at the Deutsche Bücherei in Leipzig . In 1951 he was hired as a scientific librarian at the Jena University Library . From the University of Jena , he was in 1952 for Dr. iur. PhD. In the same year he became head of the library at the German University of Justice in Babelsberg . He fled to West Germany and in 1953 became a research assistant at the Heidelberg University Library . In 1959 he was promoted to the library council, in 1962 to the senior library council and to the deputy head of the library. From 1965 until his death he was chief library director of the Heidelberg University Library. In 1977 he was still able to enforce important repair and construction measures. In addition to the German interlibrary loan , he was particularly interested in cinnamon and the famous Bibliotheca Palatina . During his tenure, the library showed the exhibitions “Ancient and Modern Book Art” (1970), “Cimelia Heidelbergensia” (1975) and “Biblia sacra” (1977). Furthermore, the manuscript department received an excellently equipped restoration workshop . Koschorreck died after a short, serious illness at the age of 63.
