Walter Kotte
Walter Kotte (born February 15, 1893 in Berlin , † June 16, 1970 in Freiburg im Breisgau ) was a German phytopathologist and for many years head of the plant protection office in Freiburg im Breisgau. Its botanical author's abbreviation is " Kotte ".
Life
Walter Kotte studied at the Friedrich-Wilhelms University in Berlin and the Albert-Ludwigs-University of Freiburg natural sciences with emphasis Botany, after an interruption by its use as a soldier and Army bacteriologist in was World War I in 1920 with magna cum laude for Dr . phil. PhD and then worked as an assistant at the Institute for Plant Physiology at the University of Berlin. In 1922 he moved to the Badisches Weinbau-Institut in Freiburg i. Br., Which at the same time performed the tasks of general plant protection. During this time Walter Kotte researched phytopathological problems of various types of fruit and vegetables and published a series of papers on the plant diseases he first discovered in these crops in Germany.
In 1931 he initially worked for two years as a lecturer in phytopathology at the Agricultural University in Ankara, took part in the development of the Turkish plant protection organization and then, after his return to Germany, took over the now independent Baden Plant Protection Office in Augustenberg.
Walter Kotte has published more than 150 essays and papers, with his books Diseases and pests in fruit growing and their control and Diseases and pests in vegetable growing and their control appeared in several editions and have been standard plant protection literature for decades.
Walter Kotte became a member of the Badischer Landesverein für Naturkunde und Naturschutz eV in 1926, worked as editor from 1934 to 1939 and was made an honorary member in 1958. He received the Federal Cross of Merit 1st Class, was an honorary member of the German Phytomedical Society and was awarded the Otto Appel Medal in 1956 . In 1957 he was elected a member of the German Academy of Natural Scientists Leopoldina in the botany section .
