Walter Müller (born December 22, 1928 in Achim near Verden ; † September 16, 1995 ) was a German football player and football coach . The striker is in the top leagues north and west with a total of 223 league games and 89 goals for the clubs 1. SC Göttingen 05 and 1. FC Köln . As a soccer coach, he won the championship in the South Regional Soccer League with KSV Hessen Kassel in the 1963/64 season .

Career in football

Müller, who played both handball and soccer at the sports association Kassel-Harleshausen (SVH) when he was young , then spent three years at Göttingen 05 during his studies in the northern soccer league . With his teammate Günter Schlegel , he finished sixth in 1951/52 under coach Fritz Rebell with the black and yellow from Maschpark in the north and had scored 13 goals in 26 league appearances. On March 18, 1951 Müller was used on the right winger in the representative game in Hamburg in the selection of North Germany against South Germany (2: 4). From the 1952/53 season, Müller played for 1. FC Köln for six years. The attacker had to deal with four different coaches : Helmut Schneider , Karl Winkler , Kurt Baluses and Hennes Weisweiler . During this time he played alongside Hans Schäfer and Josef Röhrig a total of 160 games for Cologne, in which he scored 67 goals. Sporting highlights in the 1954 world championship year were winning the western championship, the two runner-up championships in 1953 and 1958 with subsequent appearances in the finals for the German football championship , as well as the DFB Cup final on April 17, 1954 in Ludwigshafen against VfB Stuttgart (0 : 1 n.V.). On November 23, 1952, the Neuköllner was also used in a viewing game in Homburg / Saar in a DFB selection against Saarland (4: 3). Müller returned to his homeland in 1958 and joined KSV Hessen Kassel in the 2nd League South. He also played for North Hesse for six years and ended his active career in 1962 after being promoted to the South Football League . In September 1962, the qualified sports teacher took over the position of head coach at KSV in the last season of the old first-class Oberliga Süd . Under his predecessor Willibald Hahn , the newcomer had made a classic false start with 0: 8 points and 1:18 goals. At the end of the round, the former successful attacker from the upper leagues North and West had led his team to 10th place with 29:31 points. Kassel was thus qualified for the South Regional Football League, which started in 1963/64 .

In his first full year as a coach, he led Hessen to first place in the Regionalliga Süd . This was successful against the Bayern Munich and Kickers Offenbach teams, who were clearly favored before the start of the round. The offensive was the strength of the first champion of the second-rate Regionalliga Süd. The Löwen won the championship with 116: 61 goals. The attackers Horst Assmy , Jozsef Burjan , Rolf Fritzsche , Ernst Kuster , Klaus-Peter Jendrosch and Gerd Becker dominated the league. Müller was never a full professional. He took care of his professional advancement early on. The young man from Harleshausen is studying philosophy, education and English in Göttingen and wanted to become a teacher. He later completed his diploma as a gymnastics and sports teacher at the Cologne Sports University in Cologne .

In Kassel, Müller combines his interests and passions. He is a contract player at KSV Hessen and at the same time a teacher at the Friedrich Wöhler School. Müller is not only convincing on the soccer field, but also in the classroom. He becomes head of the Pedagogical Institute and finally a professor at the university.

During his time in Cologne, Walter Müller married in 1952 - and not only FC fans like that, but everyone in Cologne - on November 11th at 11.11 a.m. The former soccer player and future professor had two sons with his wife.
