politics

Ostendorff joined the FDP. From January 4, 1960 to 1983, he was a member of the Bremen citizenship for the FDP for 23 years . From 1971 to 1983 he was deputy chairman of the FDP parliamentary group .

In 1984 Ostendorff was elected regional chairman of the FDP Bremen . At the end of 1984, the economic crime department of the Bremen public prosecutor's office investigated him and the former FDP parliamentary group leader Horst-Jürgen Lahmann on suspicion of breach of trust and fraud. Due to the “improper use” of parliamentary group funds in the years 1979 to 1983, penal orders of 23,000 DM each  were issued against Ostendorff and Lahmann in April 1986 . They were proven to have used tax money, which was intended for the work of the parliamentary group, illegally for the FDP. As a result, Ostendorff renounced another candidacy for the state chair in 1986 and was replaced in this function by Claus Jäger .
