Manfred Richter (* 2. December 1948 in Kölln-Reisiek ) is a German FDP - politician and former mayor of Bremerhaven .

Life

education and profession

Richter grew up in Bremerhaven. From 1955 to 1961 he attended the Körnerschule I as a primary school, from 1961 to 1965 the Körnerschule II as a middle school and from 1965 to 1967 the Pestalozzi School II as a business high school . From 1967 to 1970 he studied at the University of Education in Bremen . From 1970 to 1978 and from 1983 to 1987 he was a teacher in Bremerhaven, from 1985 rector of the Pestalozzi School I. From 1994 to 1995 he was a freelance industrial consultant for the shipbuilding and marine technology association.

politics

Richter has been a member of the FDP since 1966. He was a member of the state board of the German Young Democrats in Bremen . From 1978 to 1987 he was deputy state chairman and from 1980 to 1987 chairman of the Bremerhaven district association of the FDP. He was then from 1987 to 1994 chairman of the party's regional association.

From 1978 to 1983 he was a member of the Bremen citizenship .

Richter was a member of the German Bundestag from 1987 to 1994 . From 1990 to 1994 he was the parliamentary manager of the parliamentary group. Documents about his parliamentary activities are in the archive of liberalism of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom in Gummersbach .

After his time as Lord Mayor, he worked as a freelance campaign manager for the FDP Hamburg in the 2001 state elections, for the campaign organization of the FDP in the state election campaign in Saxony-Anhalt from 2002 and in the state election campaign in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania from 2002 and 2006 as well as campaign manager for the FDP in the state election campaign in Brandenburg in 2004 and 2009.

Lord Mayor

In 1995 he was elected Lord Mayor of the City of Bremerhaven. During this term of office he was chairman of various administrative and supervisory boards, member of the main committee of the German Association of Cities and deputy chairman of the Bremen municipal employers' association. In 1999 he resigned from the office of mayor for health reasons and works as a freelance consultant for politics and campaigns.

  • He is a member of the amateur cabaret “Die Müllfischer” .
  • From 1992 to 2003 he was a member of the board of trustees of the Reichspräsident-Friedrich-Ebert-Gedenkstätte Foundation in Heidelberg .
  • From 2002 to 2004 he was President of the German Group of Liberal International and from 2003 to 2005 its Vice-President.
