Controversy over leave of absence

In August 2010 Schulz took a leave of absence at his own request until the end of his term of office (November 2011) as part of a city council resolution. This caused controversy, as a successor was to be elected by the city council as part of the city council's resolution in November 2010. In August 2010, the Greens group filed a complaint with the local authority against this approach. The local authority rejected the complaint. In November 2010 the administrative court before the court upheld the lawsuit against the election of a new mayor. Schulz then applied for his reinstatement as a judge with the Justice Senator in order to clear the way for the election of his successor, Melf Grantz .
