Walter Renner (psychologist)

Walter Renner (born September 6, 1956 in Innsbruck ; † October 18 or October 19, 2018 in Vienna ) was an Austrian psychologist and university lecturer.

Career

Renner graduated from the humanistic grammar school in Innsbruck in 1974. In 1982 he received his doctorate as Dr. phil. in psychology with distinction in all rigorous exams at the University of Innsbruck . He then took up a year-long position with Professor HJ Eysenck at the University of London. He worked as a traffic psychologist for the Board of Trustees for Traffic Safety and completed his psychotherapeutic training at AVM, where he also achieved the status of a teaching therapist. He also qualified as a clinical psychologist and health psychologist .

He has been teaching at the Alpen-Adria-Universität Klagenfurt since the introduction of psychology studies in 1999 , and in 2005 he received his habilitation there in the general subject of psychology. He was the initiator of numerous FWF funding projects. From 2012 to 2013 he held the temporary position of university professor for clinical psychology, health psychology and psychotherapy at the Alpen-Adria-Universität. Then he moved his residence to Vienna. He was appointed professor of clinical psychology at the Pan-European University in Bratislava . He held this position until his death. He built up a psychotherapeutic practice and devoted his research focus to neurofeedback .

He was a university lecturer at the Sigmund Freud University and the universities of Salzburg , Innsbruck and Klagenfurt. At the Austrian Academy for Psychology (AAP) he taught clinical psychology and health psychology as part of the professional training. As a cultural psychologist , he worked beyond the borders of Austria. B. as dissertation supervisor at the University of Nicosia in Cyprus . At the Carinthia University of Applied Sciences , he was appointed scientific course director for the master’s course in clinical and health psychology. He made his expertise available in several committees, such as the advisory board for psychologists and the advisory board for psychotherapy of the Austrian Ministry of Health. In 2018 Renner died after a short, serious illness at the age of 62 in a Viennese hospital.
