Walter Strutzenberger

Walter Strutzenberger (born June 8, 1928 in Vienna ; † 2020 ) was an Austrian politician (SPÖ) and a member of the Federal Council in Austria .

Life

Walter Strutzenberger completed a tailoring apprenticeship after compulsory school (1942–1944). In 1946 he joined the police service ( Vienna Security Guard ) and in 1952 switched to the criminal service (departmental inspector of the criminal service).

After a long period of union activities (chairman / deputy of the public service union (GÖD) 1967-1973, chairman of the central committee of the criminal service staff at the Federal Ministry of the Interior, chairman of the socialist unionist group in the public service union 1977, member of the federal executive committee of the Austrian Trade Union Federation 1981), he became a member of the Federal Council in 1982 . From 1987 to 1995 he was Deputy Chairman and Vice President of the Federal Council.

He was then entrusted with the chairmanship of the Data Protection Council until 2000. Walter Strutzenberger was President of the Austrian-Chinese Friendship Society.

Walter Strutzenberger was married to his wife Gertrude from 1949 and had a daughter.
